Okay all,

I want your opinions. I know some of you no longer come here and the last post was in June but give me your opinions.

I would like to re-start the site to cater to everyone involved...so let me know what you think.

This is going to sound harsh, but I don't know how to put it any other way. (Plus, I've told you this before, and you don't seem to be listening.)

If you'd quit monkeying around and deleting everyone's posts, maybe you wouldn't have driven everyone away!!

The first time you did it, you very nearly killed the site. Then, not having learned your lesson, you did it again maybe a year later, and the site has been almost completely dead ever since. Less than 20 posts in the past 12 months.

To be fair, some of the lack of activity is probably due to the fact that heroclix itself is practically dead in this town. But it seemed pretty clear to me that the posting dropped off severly after you wiped all the threads. I don't think people like having their stuff deleted. It makes posting seem fairly useless. [And a lot of the conversation that was going on had nothing to do with heroclix anyway, so it's more than just the decline in the game.]

Now, it may be that the site will never recover, but I fail to see how wiping it completely is going to convince anyone to get on board for another try. If you ask me, wiping it is just a repeat of the mistake you made before (only even bigger), and this time it will be strike three.

I don't know exactly what you mean when you say you want to "re-start the site." Does it mean, as Mark seems to think, that you'd wipe everything away, redesign the appearance and start over? Since hardly anybody has been using this site much, i don't see how much harm wiping everything away could do.

On the other hand: why wipe everything away? We could simply try to regenerate interest in this site, keep it up-to-date and actually use it for notifications or even play-by-post.

Alternatively, we could establish a Milwaukee thread at HCRealms.

I don't think he means that he wants to wipe everything out he just wants to get this site up and running again.

The only thing I think is that since it's designed to cater to the WI crowde and it's looking like you might be wanting to get it going for the Team War well.... I have a sight for that and you're there. I just have to get the rest of the players listed out and all the junk.

If you're looking for a place to have the players in WI have a place to go I say that's cool. I'm all for it. What time will you have to maintain a sight? Have you left off the HCRealms? Is it going to be too much?

Answer those questions....then we'll talk

I think the harm it does is that it fosters the impression that we have no stake in the site. You can post all you want, but Dave's just going to delete it. Sooner or later.

How does that contribute to an ongoing conversation? I guess he would argue that if he deleted a thread, it's because it was no longer ongoing, but who gets to decide that? You see it at HCRealms all the time: a thread that's been dead for a year, or more, suddenly gets revived. Sometimes the revival portion is longer than the original thread was.

I think part of the reason people post is the notion of permanence. If you're going to go to the trouble of writing something, you want to think it's going to stick around for a while. Dave's heavy-handed treatment of the site, as his own personal pet project [I want to say "plaything" but that may be too harsh], violates our conceptions of what a forum is. Violates the compact between a forum host and his guests. And frankly, I think it's just poor etiquette. [Maybe I'm crazy and no one else thinks that way. And honestly, I am curious if I am the only one, which is why I started the "Am I crazy" poll.]

Now you could say that, in truth, this *is* Dave's personal pet project. He started the site, so he has the power to do whatever he wants with it, up to and including abolishing it. (Whether or not he should *use* that power is another question.) He gets to make the rules and if we don't like the way he runs things, we are free to leave at any time.

Unfortunately, I am afraid that that is exactly what has happened.

Which is why starting the site over again wouldn't change anything.

Old venues and such should be deleted. The reason the site has little traffic is because the people who made the area games no longer play.
